Birth Month Flower series: March
The third of the Birth Month Flower series, March features the Daffodil flower.
Design notes:.
A painting of daffodil flowers set against an abstract background blends the freshness of spring with expressive, contemporary energy. The composition centers on several daffodils—bright yellow petals and trumpet-shaped coronas—rendered with confident, textured brushstrokes. Petals catch light with subtle tonal variations: buttery yellows near highlights, warm ochres in the midtones, and faint, cool shadows at the petal bases to give volume and depth.
Stems and leaves provide vertical rhythm: long, slightly curved green blades painted in layered washes of sap green, olive, and hints of blue to suggest cool reflections. The floral arrangement is slightly off-center to create dynamic balance, some blooms facing forward, others angled to reveal interior details and the trumpet’s ruffled edge.
The abstract background contrasts and complements the realism of the flowers. It consists of broad, gestural fields of color applied in overlapping planes with visible brushwork. Randomized marks and patterns add energy without dominating the subject..
The overall mood is uplifting and contemplative. The painting balances botanical clarity with abstract freedom, inviting viewers to appreciate both the daffodils’ delicate structure and the emotional resonance of color and gesture.
4”x12” acrylic painting on canvas. Each painting includes information about the flower and its symbolic meanings
“Daffodils are early spring blooming perennials with flared trumpet shape flowers and tall strappy leaves. The flowers have six petal-like tepals surrounding a central trumpet shaped corona. Daffodil’s colors varies from yellows, oranges, creams and white.
Daffodils are associated with the arrival of spring thus their symbolism tied to renewal and hope. Daffodils are said to bring good luck and prosperity when given as a gift.”
