Birth Month Series: January
The first of the Birth Month Flower series, January features the Snow Drop flower.
Design notes:
A delicate cluster of flowers, their nodding white bells rendered with soft brushstrokes that capture the fragile delicateness of petals held against a cold air. Each flower is defined by subtle variations of pearly white, faint green veining, and buttery shadows at the throat where the inner markings nestle. Slender, grass-green stems arc gracefully, their curvature suggesting a quiet resilience as they push upward through imagined frost.
The background is an abstract interplay of cool and warm tones that contrasts and elevates the blossoms. A variety of shapes and patterns paired with textural elements— drybrush streaks, and soft smudges—add an organic, tactile quality without competing with the flowers’ fragile clarity
Overall, the painting balances botanical specificity with painterly abstraction—celebrating the snowdrops’ quiet arrival through a restrained palette, layered textures, and a considered interplay of light and shadow.
4”x12” acrylic painting on canvas. Each painting includes information about the flower and its symbolic meanings
“Snowdrops are small, hardy perennials known for being one of the first flowers to bloom in late winter into early spring, often pushing through the snow. They produce delicate, bell-shaped white flowers with green markings on the inner petals, growing on a single stalk with two narrow leaves.
Snowdrops are said to symbolize hope, purity, and the promise of renewal. In some cultures, they are said to bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. “
