Head wrap Series, set of 5 postcards
The Head wrap series began as an ode to Black women and a study in fabric. Loose, abstract backgrounds of splatters and broad swipes of bright color set an energetic stage; overlaying text fragments add rhythm and context, their language both visual and suggestive. Against this vivid movement, simple black-lined figures stand composed, their silhouettes calm and certain.
Each postcard highlights a distinct headwrap: heavily patterned, uniquely tied, rendered with careful attention to fold, texture, and movement. The wraps become focal points, rich with pattern and gesture, while the minimal figures allow the cloth’s story to take center stage. The contrast between the expressive, improvisational fields of color and the deliberate, graphic depiction of the women and their wraps underscores both individuality and collective presence.
This set celebrates style, identity, and the storytelling power of fabric—small works meant to be shared, displayed, and held as reminders of resilience, beauty, and the many ways a crown can speak.
